A MAN accused of the murder of another man at New Brighton appeared for the first time at Liverpool Crown Court today.

Zac Matthew Wells died nine days after being attacked at about 3.45 am on Boxing Day after leaving Evo's Loft night club.

Christopher Cousins, 29, of Dundee Grove, Wallasey, appeared via video link from Walton prison for a bail hearing.

No application for bail was made by his lawyer Jeremy Hawthorn and Cousins was further remanded in custody until March 27 when he is expected to enter his plea.

Michael Stephenson, prosecuting, said that a pathologist report revealed that the victim had died following "a blow to the back of the head."
