BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin brought some festive cheer to Port Sunlight village as she hosted an evening of Christmas carols in aid of Claire House Children’s Hospice.

The Chester-based TV presenter and journalist joined Claire House parents, young people, supporters and volunteers for the charity’s Carols and Candles event at Christ Church, raising money to support seriously and terminally ill children cared for by the hospice.

The event also featured the Vale of Clywd Singers from North Wales who joined the congregation in a host of Christmas carols to mark the festive season.

The event has raised more than £8,500 for the hospice.

The Bebington-based hospice is currently only reaching one in two families that could benefit from its support.

Money raised over the festive season will allow the charity to reach out to more families as well as provide the very best care for over 200 families from across the region.

Tweeting after the event, Louise said: "I love a candlelit carol service. Thanks to Claire House and readers and singers for last night."

Chief of Claire House, David Pastor, was also there to enjoy the evening and take part in the readings.

"It was so wonderful to see so many people come to support their local children's hospice at such an important time of year and we’re delighted Louise was able to join us.

"We're so grateful to everyone who was a part of the evening, including our sponsors Bradshaw Farnham and Lea, for making it a festive event to remember and allowing us to reach out to many more families who need our support, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year."
