TWO people ran for their lives after being attacked by a knifeman at their Bebington home.

Police were called at 8.30pm to reports of a 24-year-old man and 19-year-old woman had been stabbed and assaulted after answering their door on Ferns Road.

Both victims were taken to hospital where the man is being treated for a slash wound to his forehead.

Two attackers knocked at the door of their property before entering .

The victims fled for safety to a neighbour's house.

Detective inspector Paul Lamb from Wirral CID said: “The investigation is very much in its early stages and we are still trying to piece together exactly what has happened, but we believe the victim was known to the offenders.

"I would urge anyone who has any information which could help us find those responsible to come forward as soon as possible. We will not let incidents like this cause fear in our communities."

House-to-house inquiries are being carried out and detectives are examining CCTV coverage. Forensic examinations have also taken place at the home.
