A Wirral schoolgirl has raised more than £600 for Dogs Trust and is vowing to raise awareness about the welfare of animals by campaigning to her local MP.

Emily Eaton, 10, has always wanted to help fundraise for animals and has dreams to be a vet in the future.

The dedicated pupil of Liscard Primary has set up a campaign to change the law for owning dogs – asking for a license to breed dogs and compulsory neutering to stop the amount of unwanted dogs in the country.

She has been calling for the backing of local councillors and has written to MP, Angela Eagle while teaching her friends about the work of Dogs Trust in assemblies.

To raise cash for the charity Emily completed an 18 mile bike-ride around Wirral on Saturday, November 26.

Proud mum, Leanne Eaton, 36, told the Globe: “Emily is really into animals and has always wanted to be a vet. She is a firm believer in having rescue dogs and doesn’t believe in breeding or buying when there are animals out there who need loving homes.

“I feel guilty for not letting her start fundraising sooner because I didn’t think she’d get into it. She is so passionate about this and wants to change the law about owning dogs.”

“From Seacombe to Meols and back we returned home at night, it felt like one of the coldest days of the year, her passion for dogs and their welfare pushed her keep on going.

On Friday, Emily launched a raffle at her school, Liscard Primary with prizes such as signed Everton and Liverpool FC shirts, VIP booth at INK Liverpool and free bowling at Riverside Bowl.

“The prizes that local businesses have donated to Emily for her raffle have been fantastic but she’s done it all herself and gone into pubs and bars asking if they can spare anything.

“One of the prizes she got was tickets for Adventureland in New Brighton but with this, they also donated a two for one ticket for Emily and her friend to visit the arcade and told her this was a gift for her efforts with fundraising, people have been so kind.

“She is over the moon and we are very proud of her for working so hard for something she cares so much about – she has a heart of gold.” Emily said: "Thanks Everyone for your support and helping me raise more than £600 for Dogs Trust and remember - don't breed or buy while thousands die, rescue a dog instead but not just for Christmas."
