Wirral's Olympian Sam Quek has missed out on a place in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! final by becoming the ninth person to be voted off.

The athlete was one of four celebrities left in the jungle alongside Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt, comedian Joel Dommett and soap star Adam Thomas.

Talking to hosts Ant and Dec after leaving last night she said: “I’m so nervous and so happy, I can’t believe it’s the end. I’m so overwhelmed, I never expected to get this far.”

Gold medal hockey star Sam, 28, said she had loved her time in the jungle, and was overwhelmed by the support she had received from fans.

“I came in here just to be myself to get on the map and inspire young girls, everyone, that sport is cool and this could be you one day,” she explained.

"To come off the back of winning the Olympic gold into this has been incredible. Another highlight for me was the jungle arms , I haven't cried with laughter like that for a long time."

She said she would like Adam to win as, like her, he had “come a long way” in facing his fear of critters.

Before her exit, the final four tackled the show’s infamous trial Celebrity Cyclone, where they dressed as superheroes and were blasted with a water cannon.

The winner of the show will be crowned during Sunday night’s episode.
