FATHER Christmas was among the guests at a special lights switch-on in aid of Claire House.

For the last 12 years residents in Amberley Close, Moreton, have created a festive winter wonderland to raise cash for the hospice.

The lights were switched on again in front of around 200 spectators on Wednesday night.

Santa arrived, complete with full-size sleigh and Rudolf his faithful reindeer.

The lights were switched on by Merseyside actress and singer Lesley Butler.

There was also entertainment from Wirral singers Val Hollywood and Michael Moon.

The idea of lighting up their homes for charity was started by Karen and Frank Williams and next-door neighbours Peter and Sandra George.

Wirral Globe:

They have been switching the lights on for years, but it’s only in the last ten years that they have done so for Claire House.

Thanks to the public’s generos- ity, they have raised more than £10,000.

Karen Williams hoped the switch-on would beat last last year’s fundraising total of £1,920.

She told the Globe: "It was a brilliant night, with hundreds of people watching the lights go on.

"It's all for a fantastic cause.

"We always like to add something new to the display.

"The idea behind the lights switch-on started because each morning I'd come out after the lights had been switched on and there’d be little money bags on the step.

"So I thought 'we might as well make money out of this, so why not do it for Claire House'.

"We don't ask people to put money in, just to come and enjoy the lights display. I'm just quite happy to see the kids' faces."

Younger visitors can leave a message for Father Christmas and in a special post box.

Karen continued: "Put the letter in the box. Remember to include your child’s name and address on the letter and they’ll get a letter from Santa.

"Just keep going and help us beat last year's total."
