CONSISTENT performers Mossley Hill Athletic were elevated to second place in the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division One after three-goal marksman Tom McNamara took the plaudits in Saturday's 4-0 eclipse of a new-look Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves.

A further effort from James Halligan completed the scoring.

Mossley's victory was made the more satisfying after current leaders Rainhill Town suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Vauxhall Motors, who had Jackson Ellis (2) and Declan Gallagher on target.

Maghull exacted revenge for a recent defeat by Heswall with an encouraging performance which saw Steve Williams (2) and Danny Dillon find the net in a 3-0 triumph.

But despite a much-improved shift from Mallaby, visitors Chester Nomads posted back-to-back victories over the bottom club, this time Rob Tabiner (2), Ed Moss and Joe Imlach obliging in a 4-0 success.

Fellow strugglers West Kirby and Richmond Raith Rovers fought out a 0-0 stalemate at Marine Park – a remarkable achievement for Richmond who were only able to field nine players.

In Division Two's match of the day, Marshalls had their lead at the top reduced to five points after they went down 3-0 at nearest rivals Ashville.

Sam Hunt was a two-goal star who was joined on the scoresheet by experienced defender Peter Hoy, who took his tally into double figures for the season.

In midweek, Hoy's double helped his side to a 3-1 decision over Willaston.

Kevin Dickinson and Dave Mee netted for South Liverpool Reserves but it was hosts Hale who profited after replies from Jimmy Eves, Colin Cunliffe, Sam Sullivan and Louis Ruddock earned the fourth-placed hosts a 4-2 win.

Ace marksman Farshad Parvas bagged a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Tom Brown (2), Dylan Fitzsimmons and Liam King, as Maghull Reserves romped home 7-1 at Vauxhall Motors Reserves.

Meanwhile, Connor Granger (2), Marios Avraam, Kyle Sambor and Tom Davies all found the net as third-placed Prescot Cables Reserves beat West Kirby Reserves 5-3.

Laurence Sorhaido (2) and Joel Douglas scored Kirby’s consolations.

Saturday's Division Three action saw previous leaders Ellesmere Port Town forfeit ground in the race for promotion after they were unlocked by a penalty from Capenhurst Villa Reserves' Iain Forster.

A Ben Stockton effort proved scant reward for Mersey Royal, who capitulated 3-1 at Chester Nomads Reserves. Sam Healey, George Jones and Sandro Maletta scored for the victors.

Nathan Mapletoft netted for Upton AA Reserves but still finished on the losing side as Redgate Rovers prevailed 4-1.

Only one fixture escaped the weather in the Youth Division and honours were shared after Vauxhall Motors Youth finished 1-1 with Maghull Youth.

Last weekend, doubles from Sean Lunt and Oscar Ratraike were good enough as Neston Nomads Reserves won 4-0 at Mersey Royal, while Iain Forster (2) and Danny Page found the net as Capenhurst Villa beat Cammell Laird 1907 DVLPMT 3-0.
