Traffic restrictions will be in place this Saturday from 8am to 8pm as  the "River of Light" fireworks show takes place on the Mersey.

The most significant aspect is "no waiting at any time" restriction along one side of the A554 from Birkenhead town centre through Seacombe and up to New Brighton.

This means parking will be permitted along the side of the road nearest the river, but not on the opposite side of the carriageway.

This is to ensure access is maintained for emergency vehicles.

Any drivers who park in an obstructive manner could face enforcement action from Merseyside Police.

Organisers have issued travel advice to anyone planning on viewing the River of Light from the Wirral side:

Public car parks will be open as usual, but spaces are limited and there is no park-and-ride facility in operation for the event.

Leave plenty of time for your journey as the event is expected to attract thousands of people.

Stagger your journey - there is entertainment before and after the main event at 6.30pm at New Brighton and Birkenhead.

Those attending the event are asked not to bring their own fireworks, sparklers or Chinese lanterns.

They are also asked not to bring dogs to the display.
