FED up with the 'dark side' and ghoulish horrors of Halloween?

Worried about your kids' trick-or-treat antics?

St Hildeburgh’s Church in Hoylake is inviting Globe readers to an alternative  "rainbow light" party on Halloween night, Monday. October 31.

The event will have face painting, apple-bobbing, games, competitions, prizes and party food and will welcome children between the ages of four to 10 and their families.

The vicar, Rev Paul Rossiter, explained: "The word hallow means holy and Halloween is a Christian festival to remember the dead, a time of hope and light, which has become - let's face it - pretty tacky and Americanised, especially with the current 'horror clown' craze.

"We are staging an upbeat substitute.

"The kids are encouraged to come in their brightest clothes and create a real rainbow effect.

"We are a church that reaches out the community and this is another way we are doing that."

Rainbow light party organiser Dr Peter Ham, former head of Hoylake's Holy Trinity Church of England school, said: "As a head, I heard a lot about children doing trick-or-treating then getting into difficulties with aggressive responses from some people at the door.

"This party will be a really positive, enjoyable occasion - far better than having children in risky situations on the streets after dark."

The gathering will be held in St Hildeburgh’s Church Hall in Stanley Road, from 4.30 to 6pm.

There is no charge, but families are asked to book at the church office by telephoning 0151 632 5339 or by email: parishofhoylake@gmail.com
