HORROR fans are invited to see a 'Karnevil of Khaos' at catacombs in New Brighton that have been transformed into a Hallowe'en-themed attraction for Claire House.

Boys and ghouls of all ages are invited to visit the show, which opened at Terror 13 - situated in the alleyway between the Floral Pavilion theatre and Brightspot Arcade - on Monday.

The brainchild of horror film buff Leigh Bufton, it is open this Friday from 6-8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 5.30pm until 8pm.

It is open next Friday from 6-9pm, Saturday and Sunday 5.30pm-9pm until Halloween, Monday, October 31, between the hours of 6pm-9pm.

The new show opened to the public on Monday. The Globe has also been on a tour of this year’s ghoulish gallery of eerie exhibits.

But for those of you who haven't already been, we don't want to give away too much about the terrors awaiting in the basement.

All we can tell you is that the chilling characters will be performed by Leigh's family, friends and colleagues.

He told the Globe: "Like any good horror sequel, this year's attraction promises to be bigger, better – and certainly more terrifying – than ever.

“It took two weeks to change the exhibition and the new show opened last week. It went down really well.

"I'm looking forward to welcoming fearless visitors to what I hope will be a fun Hallowe'en experience."

Leigh had transformed his Eastham home into a house of horror seven years ago.

When the time came to find a new venue, the catacombs in New Brighton were the perfect choice, opening there four years ago.

Scaring people for entertainment is a serious business for Leigh, a full-time security guard.

He entered Terror 13 into a competition to find the best all-year-round scare attraction. It came second to The London Dungeon.

Leigh said: "Our catchphrase is 'we make it personal'.

"Over the years, I've had people come back at least five or six times because they can't get enough of the reactions from other visitors to the show."

Terror 13 is not the only attraction lurking in the catacombs.

Leigh explained "I've heard that the place is haunted by the ghost of a grey lady. Whether you believe it or not, I'm sure ghostly tales like this will add to the atmosphere.

“Ghost investigators visit the basement on a regular basis and the stories they come back with are so familiar.

“They mention seeing a little girl, a German soldier and a bandsman who died while playing a tune called Crystal Chandalier.

"I'm a sceptic, probably the biggest sceptic around, but even I'm taken aback by what I hear."
