MORE than 500 people took part in the Hoylake 10k on Sunday, raising thousands of pounds for a special needs club in the town.

The Globe-backed event, now in its 23rd year, has so far raised more than £7,500 for Wednesday Special Needs Club's soft play sensory resource centre, which is based at Hoylake Community Centre.

First man across the finishing line was Joseph Boden from Wallasey AC in 36 minutes and five seconds. First woman across the line was Jayne Joy in 42.52

Derek Holmes, who runs a local garage Discount VW Audi Centre, and has been very supportive to the club over a number of years, presented the winners with a winner's cup.

Race secretary Carla Williams told the Globe: "Considering the number of runs taking place on the same we had a great turnout, with 520 people taking part.

"The weather was quite challenging for the runners with a brisk! coastal wind, probably a few aches and pains today.

"The Wednesday club would like to thank all the runners for taking part, and all the volunteers, RAYNET, St Johns who helped on the day

"We hope to have the full results of the run on our website www.wsnc.co.uk by Wednesday afternoon."
