A national campaign is underway which aims to break down some of the stigma around sexual health.

Sexual Health Week 2016 helps raise awareness of the health services available and reinforces the importance of getting expert help and support.

NHS service Sexual Health Wirral provides free and confidential advice, information and treatments for people living in the borough.

Their new interactive site sexualhealthwirral.nhs.uk launched in August and carries a great deal of information about looking after your sexual health.

Judy Fairbairn, Sexual Health Wirral programme co-ordinator, said "National statistics show rates of sexually transmitted infections are increasing in over-30s and even the over-50s - so we need to ensure that people embarking on new relationships later in life are fully aware of the risks."

She added: “Our clinics across Wirral are busy every day and this shows that people are becoming much more savvy with looking after their sexual health and contraception needs.

"Sexual health and wellbeing is for everybody who is sexually active.

"Choosing the right contraception, protecting yourself against STIs and knowing where to go for help is key.”
