A PLANNING application has been submitted to Wirral Council to build a new Lidl supermarket in Bromborough.

The proposals would see land to the south of Caldbeck Road redeveloped into a modern, spacious supermarket that could create up to 40 new employment opportunities for the local area.

If approved, the new supermarket will be one of ‘Lidl of the future’ stores.

The sub-mission of the application follows consultation exercises with the local community, which resulted in 85% of respondents backing the plans.

Stuart Jardine, Lidl’s head of property in the UK, said: “The response we’ve had from the local community has been extremely encouraging and I would like to thank everyone who submitted feedback on the plans.

“Should planning permission be granted, the development will provide more choice for shoppers in Bromborough and create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs for people living locally.

“We now await a decision from Wirral Council and will keep everyone updated on progress in due course.”

The company hopes that a decision will be made on the application before the end of the year.
