POLICE have confirmed Clyde the turtle has been returned safe and well to Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port.

Earlier today officers released a CCTV image of a woman they wanted to speak to following the theft of the turtle yesterday, Tuesday.

DS Rob Grantham said: “Our investigation has so far established that a young boy managed to get into the tank and remove the turtle.

"The boy was completely soaked and had no top on, which may have attracted your attention if you had been there yesterday.

"The boy appeared to be carrying something under a jumper, which we believe was the turtle known as Clyde."

Officers have since thanked the media and the public for their help.

A spokesman added: "Cheshire Police has confirmed the safe return of Clyde the turtle and has completed its enquiries having spoken to those who returned Clyde and the aquarium in Ellesmere Port.

"The three women who dropped Clyde off at the aquarium shortly before 2.17pm on 31 August 2016 have been spoken to, and in line with the aquarium’s wishes, the incident has been resolved through Restorative Justice."
