TRANMERE ROVERS.......1

Tranmere maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they picked up a point on the road against Southport.

Gary Brabin named an unchanged side again as Rovers looked to make it six wins from six and extend the club's record unbeaten run away from home to 14 games.

Tranmere appeared on course for another victory when Andy Cook fired them ahead two minutes after half-time.

Southport's equaliser came 15 minutes later when Louis Almond's cross snuck in at the far post and they held on, despite coming into the game with the leakiest defence in the league, to deny their high-flying derby rivals.

Tranmere's point was still enough to keep them top of the table, a point ahead of Dagenham.

Brabin said he was disappointed with some aspects of his side's display at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.

He said: "We worked hard to get the goal, had other good chances and to concede the goal we did was really disappointing.

"We're pleased for Cookie (Andy Cook) who's hitting the target for us.

"It was a tough game but we can't be too despondent.

"The opposition showed how good they can be and they should take a lot of points off teams this season.

"We had a 10-to-15 minute spell where we looked shaky and then they scored a goal where a bit of fortune has gone against us."
