A GRIEVING mum has been left distraught after a vile social media post was published about her 15-month-old daughter, who passed away last year.

Alicia Mearns, 32, and partner John, have been left in shock after a photograph of their baby girl was uploaded to an Instagram page which used the extremely unpleasant title "Liverpool Sl*gs."

The page, which has now been deleted, posted the image this morning and included distressing accusations as well as attacking the couple’s  dead child as “the meffiest baby we know.”

Leilah was just 15-months-old when she passed away from a rare heart disease

Alicia said: “There are some cruel people in the world.

“I just don’t understand what I have done to someone for them to want to hurt me so much.

“It is still so raw, it hurts to even look at her pictures so to see one posts in such a vulgar group was heart-breaking.

“I’m just speechless.

“Losing a child is one of the worst situation you can go through, and to see people posting such hurtful things is horrible.”

Leilah passed away in January due to an extremely rare heart condition.

It took 12 weeks for Alicia and John to find out the cause of her death had been myocarditis.

The illness is a disease marked by inflammation and damage of the heart muscle and accounts for thousands of sudden deaths each year.

“I feel as soon as I start taking a step forward I always get pulled back." said Alicia.

“It is as though people are trying to tarnish her memory, which I am fighting to keep alive.”

Since losing Leilah Alicia and her family have set up a charity, hoping to help others.

They hope The Leilah Foundation will raise awareness of myocarditis and money towards research of the disease.

Alicia has described Leilah as a 'happy and lovely baby'
