LARGE kite demonstrations are among the entertainment at Hoylake Lifeboat Station's Open Day, which takes place tomorrow.

There will also be a funfair, trade stands, charity stalls, raffles and tours of the lifeboat during the free public event, which has raised thousands of pounds for the station over the years.

Organiser Carole Jackson told the Globe: "It is one of the biggest RNLI open days in the country and is one of the station’s main fundraising events.

"It would not be possible to host open day without the support of the crew, their wives or partners and the volunteers who turn out on the day to help, so we are very grateful to them.

"Along the promenade, lifeboat crew and helpers will be up shaking the buckets - so if you can please pop something in to help the RNLI."

More than 15,000 people turned out for the event last year, helping raise £21,000 for the station.

Among the attractions was a display by Peter Davies in his gyrocopter, a funfair, trade stands, charity stalls, raffles and tours of the town’s lifeboat.

But a planned display by pilot Lauren Richardson in an adapted Pitts special plane was cancelled because of bad weather near the airfield she was leaving from.

The event runs from 10am-6pm.

The promenade will be closed to traffic 8am to 6pm.
