A MORETON-based company has offered its support to Wirral Council’s new housing strategy.

Burton’s Biscuit Company has welcomed the plans which will see more than 3,500 new homes built across the borough over the next four years.

The company is hoping to deliver new homes themselves at its vacant factory site, however they are still awaiting a decision on their proposals for the residential development on Pasture Road.

Chris Clarke, Regional General Manager at Burton’s Biscuit Company, said: “We’re delighted to support Wirral Council’s 2020 housing strategy for the future and are keen to help fulfil the Council’s target of 3,500 new homes over the next four years by breathing life into a derelict brownfield site through the provision of new homes.

“We eagerly await a decision from Wirral Council on our regeneration plans, which will see the redundant buildings transformed into a brand new, high quality residential development, providing much needed new homes for local people.

“A key element of the application will provide significant improvements to access and security arrangements for the chocolate refinery, which we would be unable to deliver without the associated redevelopment of the factory site.”

This new strategy was backed last week by the Council’s Cabinet and comes as part of a wider Council strategy - ‘Wirral 2020’ - which sets out key goals the Council aims to achieve before the year 2020.

Alongside continuing to help to meet employment goals through continued provision of jobs at its refinery site, Burton’s hopes to contribute to the Council’s strategy by regenerating its former factory site to deliver high quality new family homes and apartments.

If their application is approved, the plans would see new life breathed into the derelict site with the delivery of up to 288 quality new homes.

Almost 70 people have registered an interest in a property at the site, should planning permission be granted, which suggests the need for new housing in the Town, however two objections have been submitted.

A number of construction jobs will be created during the build phase, both directly with the developer that will take the site on and the associated supply chain.

The planning application will be considered by Wirral Council’s Planning Committee in the coming months.
