A DRUG dealer caught in Birkenhead Park has been jailed for four years.

Callum Martin was spotted sitting on a bench in the park with another man by patrolling police officers, a court heard.

On seeing them the two men walked off at a brisk speed and so the officers followed and detained them.

The other man was found to have a small amount of cannabis but 27-year-old Martin had a blue bag containing two white plastic bags, said Rob Jones, prosecuting.

When the contents were examined they were found to be 209 wraps of cocaine, a further ounce wrap of the drug and an ounce of heroin.

These Class A drugs had a potential street value of £6000.

The bag also contained hundreds of bags similar to those containing the drugs, a pair of scissors and a ringing mobile phone.

Martin, of Durley Drive, Prenton, pleaded guilty to two offences of possessing cocaine and heroin with intent to supply on June 27 this year.

When interviewed he made no comment, said Mr Jones.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that he has previous convictions and had been recalled to prison after having received five years imprisonment and a five year extended licence in 2007 for robberies.

Paul Kielty, defending, said that Martin accepted he had become involved for financial gain after some initial pressure.

He has a one-year-old daughter with his partner of four years and suffers from epilepsy after being severely attacked and left in a life-threatening coma in 2014. He was left unable to work and turned to drugs.
