THE parents of a little girl cared for at Arrowe Park Hospital's neonatal unit have raised thousands of pounds to thank staff for their life-saving work.

Neve Edwards, from Greasby was born 15 weeks early and spent three months in Wirral Women and Children's Hospital.

She is now at home and doing very well. Mum and dad Louise and Phil have raised more than £3,500 for the unit, in recognition of the wonderful care she received.

Louise said: "Words cannot express how thankful Phil and I will forever be for the wonderful care our whole family received while Neve was on the unit.

"Without the amazing staff there our world would have simply stopped turning.

"They feel like family and although we feel that saying thank you is simply not enough, this is our way of giving a little back for all they have given us."

The unit has been supported by a number of fundraisers this year, with grateful families, local employers, sports clubs and schools all donating funds towards the life-saving care they provide to vulnerable and fragile babies.

Also supporting the cause were knitters from across the country who have responded to an appeal for tiny hats, which are used in intensive care.

When staff made the request, their stock was down to just three however within a couple of days, a steady stream of packages started to arrive.

Several weeks later, the unit has hundreds of beautifully-knitted ventilator bonnets as well as tiny mittens, booties, cardigans and blankets for the babies under their care.

Neonatal matron Jacqui Morgan said: "With our services becoming increasingly busy and covering a wider area, there is a real need for public donation and support for neonatal care.

"We are so pleased with the fantastic response we have had from our knitters and fundraisers so far this year.

"Their donations will make an important contribution to the care we provide to tiny and delicate babies and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved."
