DRAMA workshops and talent shows are just some of the activities Wirral youngsters can get involved during a special event this weekend.

They are part of Love Wirral - a four-day event which starts on Friday and will be held at venues in Wallasey, Liscard and Leasowe.

Attractions also include sports activities; including football and rugby workshops, volleyball, rounders and other games.

There will also be craft, Xbox sessions, film nights, family barbecues and bike repair sessions.

The whole weekend is entirely free of charge and organised by Christine Blair and her team of volunteers from Wirral charity Rock of Joy Trust.

Among the team is Wallasey youth worker Matt Bentley as well as volunteers from several local churches in the parish of Heswall.

Rock of Joy works with three large Primary Schools in Uganda, recruiting teachers, providing brick classrooms, sourcing clean water and more – and every other year sends 30 teenagers to Africa, with adults going in the intervening years.

One of Christine's team, Hungarian student Ben Filo – who along with German student Sarah Starklauf has spent his gap year working with the the parish of Heswall – said: "We wanted to put on something that would appeal not just to children but to teenagers too, and make it free so that absolutely anybody would be able to come.

"On Saturday night in Leasowe, for example, there are two film nights going on at the same time, one for families with younger children and one aimed at teenagers.

"We haven't decided what we’re going to show yet, so all suggestions are welcome!

"There's so much happening over the weekend and although it is a cliché to say it there really is something for everybody.

"If you're into sport, there are football and rugby workshops, volleyball, rounders and other games.

"If you like crafts, there are crafty workshops making models and friendship bracelets.

"If you like computer games then we have Xbox sessions. And if you like eating, there are barbecues and picnics in the park."

The drama workshops and talent shows will be lead by Iona Farley bringing her extensive experience from years working with the youth division of Wirral theatre company Off The Ground to the sessions.

The company were well known locally for their outdoor productions of such classics as Peter Pan, The Musketeers and Alice In Wonderland.

The youth theatre shows included Titus Andronicus, The Blues Brothers and Aladdin.

Love Wirral starts at 3pm this Friday and no booking is required, other than for the children's activities in Leasowe.

It will be held at Flynn's Piece, St Hilary's Church, Claremount Methodist Church and Wallasey Village United Reformed Church in Wallasey; St Chad's Church in Leasowe and Central Park and Community Spirit (Liscard).
