TWO warring Tory councillors who were heading to court after an internal party row have agreed to bury the hatchet.

Moreton and Saughall Massive Cllr Chris Blakeley has publicly apologised for not recognising the efforts of colleague David Kirwan in trying to expose a council blunder over mobile phone masts.

“I am delighted that Cllr Blakeley has issued his statement ".

Cllr David Kirwan

In return, Cllr Kirwan - a solicitor - has said he will no longer pursue libel action against Cllr Blakeley.

However, Cllr Kirwan resigned the Tory whip last week and said on Monday he would remain in the council as an Independent Conservative serving the Hoylake and Meols ward.

Wirral Council was forced to apologise to residents after four mobile phone masts - turned down for planning permission - were allowed to go ahead because a council employee had failed to issue the relevant decision notice to T-Mobile.

Cllr Blakeley accused the Labour-led planning committee - which includes Cllr Kirwan - of trying to keep the blunder under wraps.

Cllr Blakeley said: "I deeply regret any misunderstanding that I may have caused.

"I am happy to make clear that Cllr Kirwan was a vociferous opponent of any moves to keep the mobile phone mast blunder out of the public domain.

"Cllr Kirwan has worked tirelessly for the Conservative Party cause during the past couple of years and it is a great shame that he has chosen to resign from the party.

"My wish is that we can continue working together for the good of all residents in Wirral."

Cllr Kirwan said: "I am delighted that Cllr Blakeley has issued his statement making clear the role that I played in bringing the phone mast blunder into the public domain.

"As a result, I have today decided to withdraw the libel action against the councillor.

"However, I stand by my decision to resign the party whip and will continue to represent residents in Hoylake & Meols as an Independent Conservative.

"Cllr Blakeley is a highly regarded councillor who, like myself, fights tirelessly to improve the lives of people in Wirral. I look forward to joining forces with him on many issues in the future."

I agree David Kirwan should resign and put himself up for re-election. That is the only way he can be sure if he has their support

Somehow this has turned out to be a very successful spin story!!

Whilst these two councillors have played out a very public disagreement the reason why this story came to light in the first place appears to be glossed over.

In the above article we are advised in a small paragraph that WBC apologised to residents after an admin error by a council employee.

Will we hear anymore about this or will our two Tory councillors purse this anymore?
If we are to have any faith in our elected representatives this would not be the last word!

Yet again we, the residents of Wirral, have suffered due to the incompetence of Mr David GreenÂ’s department.

DAVID PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF WIRRAL STAND DOWN!!!!!!

I know that Councillor Blakeley will not let it go. It was he who was instrumental in forcing the Council to hold a public meeting, which is to be held on the 28th of this month according to his web site. I will definitely be attending to hear first hand the sorry excuses of David Green.

Thanks for the tip off Pete! I will also make sure I'm there to hear those same excuses!!
I would also ask as many people as possible to attend to show Mr Green that there is a majority who are fed up with his and his teams incompetence!

ps I note there is no apology to residents on the WBC website!

And they'd done so well recently..
‘SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS’ FOR COUNCIL PLANNERS
11 May 2005

WIRRAL Council has received recognition from central government for significant improvements to its planning services.

The Council has been awarded a record planning delivery grant of £860,000 for meeting targets and improving its service delivery. This is largely due to the speed and efficiency with which the Council now determines planning applications.

Now hopefully they'll use some of the money to buy stamps and envelopes to send out the planning refusals

Pete...do you know if Green himself is attending the public meeting

Under the circumstances I dont think he has a choice but to attend!

I wonder if any other applications have 'slipped' through. Funny that it would be one of the more contentious applications and not a conservatory in someones yard, forr example.
Or am I being too cynical?
So - where and when is the meeting?

Wallasey Town Hall, 28 June, 7.30pm

Hey everyone, we need to make sure the Town Hall is full to capacity at 7:30 on the 28th, so that we can tell David Green and his bunch of Planning Officers what we really think!

Just be careful parking though, pound to a penny they will have the "greystapo" out in force looking for revenue generation. Sorry Rob for pinching " " but its a cracker

Dave & Dave..
I dont think that is fair.Blackley aint a prat.
He has made the appology to try and put an end to the saga of Kirwan's run a way ego.

As an aside I saw Cllr Gerry Ellis out at Hoylake on Saturday in the rain with Esther McVey with a petition about the post office cuts.
Thats what Cllrs are meant to be doing not puffing up their own egos!

Where was Kirwan?

Dave Rimmer, Wallasey says...
6:30pm Mon 18 Jun 07

OK Neil...perhaps I was over the top and maybe I have a stereotypical view of all politicians whether local or national but I am personally sick to death and tired of the incompetents running this borough.
I suppose you have to ask yourself who is actually holding the power. Is it the elected politicians or is it the unelected council officers such as David Green. I suspect half the time the elected politicians dont have a clue what decisions are being made by the likes of Green and company but just rubber stamp proposals put to them
To be totally honest I think that is why David Green is making so many ..ck-ups, not just the fact of his incompetence but the fact that councillors dont seem to know whats going on

Blackley aint a prat
BLAKEY? Sounds like on the buses oh, hang on dont mention the buses
I suppose you have to ask yourself who is actually holding the power.
Hmm, Civil Servants again i guess??

And YET AGAIN WHO SANCTIONED THE MOBILE MASTS????

Dave Rimmer, Wallasey says...
6:02pm Tue 19 Jun 07

Dave ...perhaps we will find out on the 28th, on second thoughts dont hold your breath
