CANNABIS plants have been discovered at an address in Birkenhead this week.

Police were called to an address on Borough Road at around 2.20pm on Wednesday July 13 following reports of a disturbance after a group of four men were spotted at the flat.

Officers attended while there was no-one in attendance, they discovered over 100 cannabis plants and a bridged electricity meter.

The plants were recovered by the force’s cannabis dismantling team and the scene was forensically examined.

House to house enquiries were also carried out in the area.

There have been reports of a heavy police presence in the area since.

The discovery comes a few weeks after three cannabis farms were discovered in Wallasey with one believing to have been capable of making more than £1m profit.

Birkenhead Neighbourhood Inspector Georgie Minnery said: “The problem with drugs such as cannabis, is that they can cause major harm in our communities and people don’t seem to realise that.

“When we have incidents like this, we need people to realise that the growing of an illegal substance such as cannabis can cause serious risks and even potential deaths.

"Therefore, we ask the community to give us information about drugs activity in their area, so we take action against those responsible.”

Anyone who has any information about drugs activity in their area to get in contact via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
