A WIRRAL teenager was threatened with a hammer by an armed gang in Bebington on Friday evening.

The 16-year-old boy had his mountain bike stolen by three teenagers who were reportedly also carrying a pen knife in the grounds of St Andrews Church.

Police are currently investigating the incident which took place on Church Road at around 1.30pm.

One of the offenders was described as being white and around 15-years-old. All three of the males were wearing black and had their faces covered.

Detectives have spoken with the victim and enquiries are on-going in the area.

CCTV is being examined and house to house enquiries carried out.

The boy was not hurt but has been left distressed by his ordeal.

Neighbourhood Inspector Katie Wilkinson said: "This must have been a very frightening experience for the victim.

“Thankfully incidents such as this are rare and we are working hard to trace the offenders responsible.

"Patrols have been stepped up in this area to reassure residents and visitors to the park.

“I would urge anyone who has any information about this incident, especially anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have seen males fitting this description, to come forward."
