THE ANNUAL Dragon Boat Race will be returning to West Kirby next month.

This event which is now in its fifth year sees participants competing for the Headway Trophy while supporting local brain injury charity Headway Wirral.

This year’s race on Saturday July 2, will be opened by Wirral’s mayor Pat Hackett who plans to show his support.

Donna Richards, CEO of Carpenters Solicitors who are sponsoring the event said: “The support and services Headway Wirral offer are life changing to the victims of brain injury and their families, and the Dragon Boat Festival is Headway Wirral’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

“We are counting on everyone in our industry and in our community to dig deep and help us to make this not just our best event yet but our most successful too”.

TV Chef Simon Rimmer will be taking part as he plans to captain his team the Viking’s.

Taking place on West Kirby marine lake, the race starts from 10.30am.

All participants at this year’s event will be welcomed to join the 'After Paddle' party at West Kirby Sailing Club, with their families and friends to enjoy post-race drinks, BBQ and the eagerly anticipated awards presentation where the winner will be crowned.

There will also be activities for children, including face painting and games, including our raffle with some excellent prizes.
