FIVE people have been arrested and and a "significant amount" of drugs recovered along with weapons in the Moreton area.

Merseyside Police, working alongside Wirral Council's anti-social behaviour team and Magenta Housing, have today carried out a series of raids in a day of action.

The crackdown was in response to community concerns about criminal offences, anti-social behaviour and intimidation linked to addresses in the area.

Raids have been carried out at two addresses in Witley Close and one in Lyons Road resulting in the recovery of a sophisticated cannabis farm equipment capable of producing hundreds of thousands of pounds of the drug per year.

More than £15,000 worth of cannabis, suspected cocaine and Benzocaine, around 800 ecstasy tablets, two air weapons, swords and a knuckle duster were seized.

A letter-drop - above - has also been carried out to inform local people of the action taken today and officers have been talking to residents to provide reassurance following the raids.

Wirral Superintendent Tracy Hayes said: “I would like to thank the residents of Moreton for their continued support, without which we would have not been able to take such robust action this morning against those causing problems in your area.

"This includes suspected drug supply offences, and the illegal and anti-social use of scrambler bikes.

“Since our day of action earlier this month, we have been grateful to receive a wealth of information from the community, which we have assessed and acted on.

"Working with our local partners, we will continue to use all lawful powers available to us in order to make Wirral a safer and more peaceful place to live.

“Days like this are not a one-off, but a continuous response, so we will continue to act upon any information received.

"There are many different ways that you can contribute, from reporting crime and anti-social behaviour, by following our Twitter and MerseyNOW feeds, or getting involved in your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.”

Anyone with information on crime and anti-social behaviour in Wirral can report incidents and concerns via the 101 number or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Moreton residents who wish to join Neighbourhood Watch or get further information can contact police community support officer Dave Crowley at Wallasey police station via 101.
