RESIDENTS living near a notorious accident blackspot in Meols are being urged to complete a survey as part of an ongoing campaign to tackle traffic issues that have plagued the neighbourhood for years.

Wirral West MP Margaret Greenwood has targeted circulated householders in Heron Road, Acres Road and The Ridgeway with the questionnaire.

Their answers will be used to help make the case to Wirral Council that Heron Road is in urgent need of improving.

Ms Greenwood said "Residents in the area have long campaigned for the road to be improved because of the high volume of traffic and the speed at which some motorists travel down Heron Road.

“The council does need to look at the road and try and come up with a sensible solution to the problems and this survey should go a long way to providing additional information.”

In January 2014, a motorist was taken to Aintree Hospital by helicopter with non-life threatening injuries after a two-car crash.

In June 2011, a motorist was treated for injuries after their car overturned on Heron Road in between the Saughall Massie roundabout and Birkenhead Road Meols.

In September 2006, a man from Meols was taken to hospital with multiple injuries after his car left the road and ended up on its side in a field.

Fire crews used cutting equipment to free the 20-year-old from his car.

Ms Greenwood continued: "Two meetings have taken place with residents over the past six months, one of which was attended by council officers.

"However, the issues on Heron Road go back much further.

"I would urge all residents in the area to fill out the form and send it to me as soon as possible.”
