A WIRRAL man said 'I do' after taking part in the Mersey Tunnel 10k.

Abir Ali went prepared to marry fiancée Hayley Blanch when he joined more than 3,000 people for charity run on Sunday.

The scientist from Moreton ran dressed as a groom wearing a shirt, tie, suit jacket and buttonhole flower – as well as a special personalised 'Groom' race number carrying the special date '1906' - as the race took place on June 19.

After crossing the finish line he dashed off to Thornton Hall Hotel to marry Hayley.

The two got engaged on Hayley's birthday last year after three years together.

Looking back, 41-year-old Abir told the Globe: "What a memorable day!

“The BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K was a fantastic event. The support I received leading up to the big day from my running friends was absolutely superb and it allowed me to focus on the big day.

"Hayley appreciated that the race would eliminate my nerves and I approached the wedding full of confidence.

"I have to say, June 19 2016 goes down as the best day of my life – how many people can say they did a race on their wedding day. That’s pretty special.”
