WIRRAL'S Race For Life takes place next weekend and its organisers are urging more people to sign up.

Organisers hope 2,900 women will register for the Globe-backed event, taking place in Birkenhead Park next Sunday, June 26 in aid of Cancer Research UK.

So far 1,908 people have signed up.

The event will be followed a week later (Sunday, July 3) by the charity's Pretty Muddy, in which participants follow a 5k obstacle course with added mud, takes place at Brimstage Maze, at 10am. So far, 1,113 are registered.

Rhian Coathup, Race for Life Event Manager at Wirral, said: “We are really looking forward to Race for Life Wirral.

“Lots of ladies have entered already both the 5K and 10K event on Sunday 26 June at Birkenhead Park and our brand new Pretty Muddy event – a 5k obstacle course with an extra helping of mud – on Sunday 3 July at Brimstage!

"And there’s still time to enter."

Wirral Globe:

Participants in recent 'Pretty Muddy' event for Cancer Research UK

"Ladies can sign up to Race for Life 5k and 10k until midnight next Friday June 24 and until midnight on Friday 1 July for the new Wirral Race for Life Pretty Muddy.

"The idea of Race for Life is that it is a fun and supportive environment where you don’t have to be fit or fast but by running, jogging or walking and getting sponsored you’ll be doing your bit to help Cancer Research UK raise funds to help beat cancer sooner."

Last year, 2,574 women took part, boosting the charity's funds by £129,574.

Money raised on the day will be used to help doctors, nurses and scientists advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Wirral.

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
