THE site of a former Wirral pub is to be redeveloped as part of a £3.7m affordable housing scheme that will see 19 affordable homes built in Beechwood.

Construction of five two-bedroom houses, two two-bedroom flats and two one-bedroom flats on the site of the One O'Clock Gun in Bidston Drive Green  is set to start later this month.

They are among 19 affordable properties availabe for rent Liverpool Housing Trust – their first major development since taking over the estate in September 2015.

Work is also set to start on the Fender / Feltree site - situated between Farmfield Drive, Beechwood Drive and Fender Way - where nine two-bedroom houses and two two-bedroom bungalows will be built.

The developments follow consultation with residents last October, which highlighted the demand for more two-bedroom homes in the area.

Sue Westwater, managing director at LHT, said: "We're really looking forward to building these important new homes, and delivering on the promises we made to residents when we took over the Beechwood estate.

"In just over a year, 19 brand new homes will be available for local people, and we expect that they will make a real difference to the area.

"The two developments will also provide much-needed two-bedroom properties in Beechwood - something that was requested by residents during our consultation event last October."

The developments have been part-funded through a £265,000 grant from Wirral Council and £422,500 from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Sue Westwater added: "We have worked closely with Wirral Borough Council and the HCA on these schemes, and we are delighted that they are helping us to bring high quality, affordable homes to Wirral."

The One O'Clock Gun development is expected to be finished by January 2017.

The Fender / Feltree development is due for completion in September 2017.
