SOME of the biggest names in alternative music will feature in Wirral's first Skeleton Coast Festival.

Taking place at Hoylake Parade on Saturday August 6, the event is organised by The Coral's label Skeleton Key Records, Coda Presents and Hoylake Beacon.

A spokesman said its aim is to: "showcase some of the best alternative local and Liverpool artists, on two stages dedicated to showcasing the artists at their best."

Headlining are three-piece surf-psych band The Wytches from Peterborough.

Described as 'one of the best most exciting young bands to come out of the UK in recent years' their debut LP, Annabel Dream Reader, was produced by ex-Coral member and songsmith Bill Ryder Jones.

The group features singer-songwriter Kristian Bell, drummer Gianni Honey and bassist Daniel Rumsey.

The festival spokesman added: "We are thrilled to have them headlining the first Skeleton Coast Festival."

Other acts appearing are Marvin Powell, Wicked Whispers, Minnetonka, Psycho Comedy, Rory Wynne, Mysterines, Floormen, Rongorongo, Tom Lowe, Buffalo Riot, Bathymetry and Jo Mary.

There will also be DJ sets from Hoylake’s very own The Coral, Johnny Thieves many more.

The spokesman continued: "We also have local escape pop band By The Sea who have released two critically acclaimed albums, the gentle vocal of Liam Power with shimmering shoegaze guitars will make you feel the melancholy and longing of life on the coast.

"Also topping our bill we have The Stairs' Edgar Summertyme Jones with all the rasp and soul one could hope for from a vocalist and after a sellout tour with reformed The Stairs

"He is Wirral-bound to bring you a top notch solo performance.

"Rising star She Drew The Gun will be gracing us with a solo performance of her poetic soul wrenching and politically savvy songs that can bring any ego back to earth.

"Adding to this stellar line up we have artists signed to Liverpool labels Delta Sonic, Skeleton Key, Viper & War Room records and some of the most exciting unsigned acts destined for their own path of success adding new fans to an ever evolving Merseyside music scene.

"We've also have great array of local food stalls, vintage clothes, handmade crafts and jewellery, vinyl and memorabilia stalls."
