A COMMUNITY garden party will take place in Birkenhead this afternoon.

Organised by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and Wirral Council the 'come along to meet your community' will be held at Brassey Gardens Children's Centre from 12.30pm to 4pm.

Among the attractions are a free raffle, music and dancing, displays by the fire service, police and the Army plus entertainment and free food.

Admission is free.

Watch manager Eddie Parry, fire community safety officer for Wirral Intensive Family Intervention Programme said: "Events like these help break down barriers in local communities and signpost various support services.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside other organisations and really reach out to local people.

"As well as it being a fun event, we will also be offering advice about community and fire safety.

"There will be plenty of activities on offer for all the family to get involved in.”

Cllr Matthew Patrick, Wirral's cabinet member for community engagement, said: "This is a great example of partner organisations working together to make a difference in a community.

"The aim is to give us a taste of what local public services can offer, and have some fun and meet some of your neighbours in to the bargain."
