TRANMERE Rovers will play Premier League side Liverpool FC in a pre-season friendly at Prenton Park later this week.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to field a strong line-up with a first team squad set to cross the Mersey for Friday's fixture, which kicks off at 7pm.

It will be the first time the clubs have met in a pre-season friendly since 2008 when Rafael Benitez' team ran out narrow 1-0 winners.

Edrissa Sonko and Bas Savage debuted for Rovers that day while The Reds fielded a strong line-up which featured Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyppia.

Yossi Benayoun scored the only goal of the game and Andy Taylor hit the post with Tranmere’s best chance in front of a 15,000 strong crowd at Prenton Park.

With many supporters requesting to sample a home game in the Cowshed Stand, for this one-off game, it will be billed 'Cowshed v Kop'.

The home fans will be located in the Cowshed and with Liverpool FC supporters situated in the North Star Environmental Kop Stand.
