A WALLASEY teenager kicked a puppy to death after a row with his girlfriend.

Kai Lewis Dale Tomlinson, of Aspley Avenue, appeared before Wirral magistrates' court and admitted causing unnecessary suffering leading to the death of the 18-month-old female Cavalier King Charles spaniel, called Holly.

Wirral Globe:

An RSPCA officer recovered Holly's body buried in a bin sack in the back yard of premises which Tomlinson shared with his girlfriend.

Chris Murphy, prosecuting on behalf of the RSPCA, said Tomlinson had argued with his girlfriend and later launched the ferocious attack on the dog after she had gone out.

He said Tomlinson “admitted he had anger issues and said he wanted to lash out at something close to his girlfriend.”

Tomlinson recognised that what he had done was wrong and admitted to feeling panic when the animal started going "floppy" and bleeding.

A post mortem report said Holly had suffered “unprovoked physical violence causing physical suffering and mental terror on an unimaginable scale.”

Wirral RSPCA Inspector Anthony Joynes said after the hearing: “This is unfortunately yet another case of abhorrent animal cruelty in Wirral.

“However these sorts of cases involving physical violence towards animals are clearly the most serious and upsetting to deal with.

“Holly had done absolutely nothing wrong, was completely unable to defend herself and was brutally beaten to death.

“It saddens me greatly to know that her final moments where of brutal violence and terror.

“There is absolutely no place in society for this sort of appalling behaviour and people can expect to be brought before the courts for it.”

Magistrates bailed Tomlinson until June 15 for reports to be carried out before sentencing.
