IT WAS a fantastic day of football at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium where the second round of CWFL finals were held.

In the first of the day’s games Blacon Thistle lifted the CWFL Dee 106.3 League Cup after beating Ellesmere Port 3-1.

In a tight first half Thistle took the lead through an own goal, with Ellesmere Port replying just before the half-time break.

Thistle added a further two second-half goals to secure their first silverware of the season with Adam Stenning being named man of the match, awarded to him by Simon Davies of Dee 106.3.

The day’s second game saw the inaugural playing of the CWFL Tarvin Precision Doug Johnson Trophy.

After the first successful season of the newly-formed CWFL Vets Division, Blacon Youth Vets and Tattenhall Vets locked horns in an end-to-end game that defied the over-35 age group players.

Blacon Youth Vets did enough to secure a 3-1 victory and also collected the league trophy after wrapping up the title with a midweek victory over Ashton.

League and Cup double celebrations begin for Blacon Youth Vets FC, who won the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division and the CWFL Tarvin Precision Doug Johnson Trophy.

The day was complimented with a look to the future as the Tackle Store Invitational Shield was played between Blacon Youth under-10s and Tarvin under-10s.
