REVELLERS in Wirral will be able to stage cut-price street parties to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday after the council announced it will waive road closure charges.

Celebrations are due to take place across the borough event to mark the milestone birthday over the weekend of June 11 and 12.

And to help residents get in the party spirit, the authority has pledged it will not be charging its usual £141 fee to shut roads.

Wirral Council leader, Cllr Phil Davies, said this afternoon: "The Queen is our longest-serving monarch and her 90th birthday is a milestone that I know many residents want to celebrate with their friends and neighbours.

"Organisers need to let us know if they want to stage their party in the street and exclude through traffic as a temporary traffic order has to been drawn up.

"However, as a goodwill gesture, for anyone organising a party for the Queen's official birthday we will waive the usual legal fee."

The Council also says it will supply all the necessary signage on the day free of charge too.

Residents can apply for their temporary road closure for the Queen’s 90th birthday online.

However they need to it by next Friday, May 22 to ensure enough time for the traffic orders to be drawn up.

Council officers will also be able to advise on other matters related to street parties, such as public liability insurance and any licensing issues.
