A WIRRAL musician is supporting this year's Mental Health Awareness week by hosting his own charity evening.

Taking place at the Grosvenor ballroom in Liscard on Saturday, May 21, it has been organised by Cal Ruddy.

The 21-year-old from Wallasey has Asperger's syndrome and organised the event with the help of his friends and family, hoping to raise vital funds and awareness of Wirral CAMHS centre.

He told the Globe: "CAMHS is a brilliant centre, they have supported me through my depression and anxiety.

"Hopefully this event will raise a lot of awareness and fund for them."

CAMHS are specialist NHS services, it stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

They offer treatment when children and young people have emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties.

Throughout his life Cal has overcome many mental health conditions.

Aged just eight-years-old he suffered a mental breakdown and was diagnosed with aspergers.

As a teenager he also battled depression.

Cal found comfort in music, and his self-titled band will be headlining the fund raising evening.

He said: "I'm really proud of myself for how far I have come, a few years ago I never had the confidence to get up on stage.

“On the night I will not only be on the stage but I will be headlining too.”

The evening will include a variety of stalls and a raffle with prizes donated from Dawson and Merseyrail.

There will also be the chance for guests to take part in paranormal investigations.

Both national and independent mediums will be available to provide readings and demonstrate what being medium involves.

Friends of Cal's, Alice Nancy and Jake Marley have been helping organise the event.

Cal explained when he one of his bad days they have been there to take over.

Cal's mum Paula Ruddy said: "We are just so proud of Cal, as a family we have all worked hard finalising the details of this event.

"Seeing how far Cal has come and the obstacles he has overcome is fantastic, I’m a very proud mum."

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2016 takes place from May 16-22, with the theme of relationships celebrating the people that help suffers manage mental health.
