STATUS Quo and Will Young will have their fans rocking all over Tranmere Rovers’ ground next weekend for Wirral Hospice St John's.

Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt will perform one of their last ever full-on electric shows as part of Wirral Rocks at Prenton Park on Saturday, May 21.

The rock legends will hang up their electric guitars at the end of this year and pull the plug on their electric set.

They will be joined by bandmates Andy Bown, John 'Rhino' Edwards and Leon Cave for Saturday's show.

Supporting them will be Wirral rockers Insanity Beach and Liverpool band The Christians.

Will Young will headline on the opening night, Friday, May 20, supported by '80s Liverpool band China Crisis and rising Sheffield-based singer/songwriter Philippa Hammond.

On what will be their final tour, Francis Rossi said: "We’ve talked about it for some time and have decided that it’s time for us to hang up the electrics.

"It’s getting harder and harder for us to play those shows.

“It’s 30 years since we last said we were stopping but this is a final decision.

“It doesn’t mean we won’t do other things, perhaps the odd special, but we’re agreed that the moment has come.

“There’s more to come from us in the years ahead, but we won’t tour the electric set ever again.”

Rick Parfitt added: “We always thought we’d see a red light when it was time to stop. The show hurts now, physically.

“It’s hard to maintain that level of energy and without that it’s not really a Quo show.

“So we don’t feel we should continue. This is definitely the end of our lives on the road with the electric set, life won’t be the same for us – or many of the fans – but we can’t go on at this pace anymore.”

Will Young will headline act on the opening night, Friday, May 20.

The entertainer - whose many hits included Leave Right Now, Evergreen, Jealousy - will be supported by 80s Liverpool band China Crisis and rising Sheffield-based singer/songwriter Philippa Hammond.

In a recent interview, Will told the Globe: "I love doing the live gigs. It's going to be a great show.

"It's going to be a little bit mad, with some old new stuff. There will also be a little homage to Kurt Cobain, and some confetti thrown in.

"I love doing the shows and making sure the audience get their money's worth.

"It's part of a 20-date summer tour."

On fundraising for Wirral Hospice St John's, he continued: "I don't have any personal connection with the hospice, but I'm looking forward to helping raise money for it.”

Teresa Nightingale, told the Globe: “It’s been one of the most exciting and challenging events to organise, but people have really come together to support us.

“We’ve sold thousands of tickets for both shows and it will definitely feel like a gig on both nights.

“We are grateful to Tranmere Rovers for allowing us to stage the concerts and the thousands of music fans who have shown their support buying tickets.

"We’re definitely already talking about what to do next year."
