TRANMERE Rovers' chairman Mark Palios praised fans and players' generosity after more than £10,000 was raised for a scheme giving disadvantaged children the chance to watch live football at Prenton Park.

The #SWA2 fund was set up last summer, to allow children to attend live football matches with their parents or carers.

So far £10,000 worth of tickets have been used by more than 30 organisations including Autism Awareness, Beechwood Community Trust Claire House, Gautby Road Play & Community Centre, New Ferry Rangers and Wallasey Wanderers.

It means around 2,500 youngsters have attended games over the course of the club's 2015-16 campaign.

Mark Palios said: "This is another example of the Tranmere Rovers family helping its local community.

"We will be continuing and expanding the #SWA2 campaign next season.

"Having raised more than £10,000 in its first year, we have the target of doubling that figure for the second year to enable us to provide opportunities to even more young people but also to help disadvantaged adults in the local community.

"We are hoping to once again receive the backing of Wirral businesses who are able to make charitable donations to the fund."

The club is looking for additional organisations to help distribute of the tickets.
