Free meals are being provided as part of the "Feeding Birkenhead" campaign to prevent children going hungry during the school holidays.

The timetable covers the two-week Spring Break holiday, which got underway on Monday.

It completes a first full year in which Feeding Birkenhead, the campaign the town's MP Frank Field helped set up to tackle hunger in the town, has pioneered the provision of free food and fun for children during the holidays.

The provision has had an immediate impact on the need for food banks, and it helps to ensure that children return to school after the holidays ready to learn.

A "Feeding Coventry" project was recently established in the East Midlands to build upon the school holiday provision that has been pioneered in Birkenhead.

Feeding Birkenhead is also working with Wirral Council to establish three new free school breakfast clubs during the summer term, so that children need not start the school day on an empty stomach.
