A CORNER of Birkenhead Park is set to be transformed into a multi-functional area for young people – thanks to a Wirral youth charity.
Voluntary organisation HYPE (Helping Young People Everywhere) is helping to develop an area of Birkenhead Park for the sole use of youth projects and the local community.
HYPE intend to use the area for projects covering wildlife, horticulture, sport, the great outdoors and arts and crafts and are now appealing for sponsorship for the scheme.
A plan of how the area is set to be developed
Project manager Matt Houghton said: "We are really excited to see this 'Park Inner Park' project come to fruition and look forward to linking children and young people with community activities to expand their world beyond simply the school and home setting, creating a positive impact on the whole family.
"We believe that by engaging more young people in positive activities through workshops and weekly sessions, they will become empowered to live enhanced healthy lifestyles, develop good relationships with their families, increase their self-esteem and confidence and raise their life aspirations.
"As an established organisation with eight staff, four volunteers, three trustees and a huge array of kit and equipment, we will ensure all activities are safe and fun.
Environmental charity Groundwork has developed a design for the triangular plot of land to provide a multifunctional space where activities can be targeted to support specific groups.
There are areas set aside for a basketball court, woodland planting, a workshop building, an orchard, raised planters, assault course, a camping area and more.
Matt Houghton added: "All five of the areas – learning, sports, growing, entertainment and woodland – are available for sponsorship. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org."
Park Manager Paul Davies who has been behind this project since its conception said: "Birkenhead Park and its team welcome and support HYPE with this new and exciting community based project.
"Our mission is to help deliver with HYPE, a unified experience for all young people in our diverse community, providing equitable access, individualized educational coordination and quality of experience.
"Birkenhead Park provides a central access point for working with all community based organisations and as such, we are well positioned to contribute to this project”
HYPE is a company limited by guarantee, a voluntary sector organisation established in 2007, and runs a range of youth activities including youth clubs, after-school clubs and holiday clubs in Rock Ferry, Woodchurch, Leasowe and Birkenhead.
