MORE than 20 Wirral organisations have received a share of £29,000 raised from last year's charity Christmas Scout Post.

The money, raised through the sale of the stamps by guides and scouts, was handed over during an event at Wallasey Town Hall.

Among those receiving a share was Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Family Tree Wirral, Friends of Cambridge Road, The Friends of Vale Park, Fusion, Hoylake Parade Community Centre and Ronald McDonald House Arrowe Park, Wirral Heartbeat, Wirral Holistic Care Services and Wirral Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Last year's 2015 Christmas Post campaign was supported by 242 shops.

The many participating Scout and Guide groups, sixty in total, also benefit on a commission basis through both selling stamps and delivering cards.

Richard Twemlow, chairman of Wirral Charity Post said: "We would like to thank all the volunteers and shop keepers that help us to run this fundraising initiative and all the members of the local community who support us each year by buying the stamps.

"We are proud that because of this successful collaboration at the end of the evening we will have been able to assist other local Wirral charities with just under £600,000 during the past 33 years."

Congratulating Wirral Cllr Les Rowlands congratulated the Scout Post volunteers and all concerned for their achievements.

He said: "It gives me great pleasure to witness these cheques going out and also to meet the groups delivering this fantastic, fabulous work in our community.

"On behalf of the recipient charities and myself I would like to thank all the Scouts and Guides so much for your hard work."
