A WIRRAL Girl Guide leader has been awarded with a prestigious prize for her fantastic work.

Christine Ring is one of 66 people across the country who have received a Halifax Giving Extra Award.

Now in its third year, the awards recognise people who bring communities together and help them thrive.

Charity fundraisers, sports coaches, volunteers and many more have been praised for the contribution they make.

The awards are an important part of Lloyds Banking Group’s ambition to help Britain prosper.

Christine was nominated by volunteer Ken Glass, for going above and beyond for the people in her community.

She has been a voluntary Girl Guide leader in Wirral since 1977, looking after 140 young people a week in Rainbows, Brownies, Girl Guides and Rangers.

She volunteers tirelessly to raise funds for the Guides and local charities, runs Summer Camps each year and leads young people on the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Christine said: "I was surprised but also delighted to win a Halifax Giving Extra Award.

"It was such an honour to just be nominated, so I am hugely proud to have actually won."

Terry Adams, community ambassador for Halifax Cheshire, said: "The work that Christine has done for the community is outstanding and truly deserves this recognition.

"She has truly gone the extra mile for people in our community – and we are delighted to recognise this."
