WIRRAL line rail services are returning to normal after an incident at Chester railway station this afternoon.

British Transport Police were called just after midday following reports that a passenger was refusing to leave a train at the station.

The incident has now been dealt with and services are returning to normal.

Merseyrail say the incident had caused minor disruption, adding that some services may still be cancelled or delayed.

The disruption is expected until 2.45pm.

A statement on its website read: "Services are returning to normal on the Chester Line but will remain subject to delay and possible part cancellation until the normal timetable is restored."

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Our officers were called to Chester station at around 12.14pm on Friday following reports of a passenger unwilling to alight from a train.

"Colleagues from Cheshire Police also attended and the incident has now been resolved."
