NEW owners of a popular independent bookshop are continuing the legacy of the store with a host of events coming up this month and into February.
Sue Porter and Mike King took over Linghams Bookshop in Heswall from previous owners Eleanor and Peter Davies in September and vowed to build upon its previous success.
Sue said: “Linghams is a special place.
“When we realised it was available, we jumped at the chance to own it.
“Helping to run such an important shop and in my own home town too, is a dream come true.
“We are very aware of the legacy built by Eleanor and Peter.
“We want Linghams to become the central hub for all creative and cultural matters locally.
“Mike and I are avid readers and love a wide range of music; we hope we can bring a fresh approach and new ideas to make things even better and more exciting for all of our customers.”
Having traded for more than 20 years, Linghams is a past winner of the Independent Bookshop of the Year.
The store will host "Be Intrigued" by Gareth Williams on January 21 in which the former Dean of Medicine at the University of Bristol looks at th fascinating history of the Loch Ness Monster in his book "A Monstrous Commotion."
"Be Inspired" by author, restaurateur and dedicated curry evangelist Wirral's Nisha Katona on January 28 will feature a cookery demonstration, Q&A and tasting.
And author Ann Cleeves will be at Linghams on Tuesday, February 9, to talk about her Vera Stanhope series – which is now major ITV detective drama "Vera" starring Brenda Blethyn.
