A WIRRAL man is part of a team of Beatles' fans taking on a charity trek of more than 1,000 miles for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Now in its tenth anniversary, the 2016 Dumball Rally will see 37 bangers travel over 1,200 miles from India to Goa.

David Houghton is part of a group that will dress as The Beatles and driving their Austin Ambassador taxi, decorated as a yellow submarine.

The team has gone for a Liverpool inspired theme following the development of a brand new Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Alder Hey in the Park, which is due to open officially in the New Year.

David, from Wallasey, project manager for the new Alder Hey in the Park development, said: "Through my work at Alder hey Children’s Hospital, I have worked alongside Teenage Cancer Trust to enhance the environment, staff support and care of young people with cancer.

"This journey is immensely important for the whole family and I've seen first-hand how Teenage Cancer Trust, in partnership with the NHS, helps to make this very stressful time as good as it can be.

"I'm also doing this trip in memory of my wife whose loss just over four years ago devastated our family.

"She did not have cancer, nor was she a teenager but she had a real adventurous streak and I believe she would approve wholeheartedly."

Sian Day, Teenage Cancer Trust fundraiser said: "We're so thankful to people like David and his team who take on these amazing challenges for us.

"A young person’s life shouldn't stop just because they have cancer, so we provide young people with cancer and their families the best possible care and support.

"We rely on voluntary donations to make this happen and I hope the people of Liverpool will get behind this Fab Four!"

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the seven young people aged 13 to 24 diagnosed with cancer every day.

The charity funds and builds specialist units in NHS hospitals and provides dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.
