TWO teachers from a Wirral primary school are celebrated after the children’s book they wrote together was published.

Suzanne Quest and Carole Smith became friends while working together at Great Meols Primary School.

It was there that they came up with the idea for their Dr Daphne and Nurse Moira stories, a collection of tales based in the fictional village of Puddington Vale.

Each story tackles an everyday problem familiar to so many children.

Suzanne said: “One deals with an outbreak of chicken pox, others with a sprained ankle or a bumped head.

“In every story Dr Daphne and Nurse Moira are there to solve the problems and make everything better with kind hears and a warm smile.”

Pupils at Great Meols have been reading and enjoying the stories in class, with the two teaching assistants recently holding a book signing after school.

The pair, who have been featured on BBC Radio Merseyside, will sign copies of their book at Lingham’s in Heswall on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.

Suzanne added: “We hope to inspire the children on Wirral and bring a new set of children’s characters to life through our book.”

Carole said: "Lots of people have said they are ideal for bedtime reading as they are just long enough. Our village of Puddinton is based on the actual village of Puddington in Cheshire.

"The story 'The Flood' has its illustration of the village green and it is from a photograph we took in Puddinton of their village green. We just felt is epitomises traditional village life there which is what we wanted to capture in our books.

"Our book is really child centred and explores childhood incidents such as splinters, bumped heads and chicken pox.

"We based all the character names on family, friends and the two main characters are our mothers names Daphne and Moira.

"We think we have found a niche in the market for stories based in a traditional village with the local doctor and her nurse on hand to help. "Together they solve the days problems and are always ready to help in the pretty little village of Puddington Vale."

Dr Daphne and Nurse Moira is available to buy at Amazon, Waterstones and Linghams in Heswall.
