Wirral 36 Cleckheaton 8

FOLLOWING a disappointing result last week, Wirral bounced back with a ruthless second half performance to win emphatically with a six try bonus performance.

In the 13th minute Cleckheaton took the lead when they moved the ball quickly down their backs to allow winger, Mike Haywood to score in the corner.

The lead was extended to 0-8 when Ronan Evans converted an easy penalty. Gradually Wirral began to take control.

From a 30m line out they advanced to the Cleckheaton line when a loose ball was picked up by Joe Murray who ran in unopposed to score, the try was not converted; 5-8.

Early in the second half Wirral took the lead with a well-executed try through flanker, Chris Speed which Dan Harvey converted.

The match was won with two Wirral tries in three minutes through James Reeve and captain, Rob Pearl; one of these was converted to extend the Wirral lead to 24-8 and secure the try bonus point.

On 65 minutes, Ali Baker got himself on the score-sheet, again, Dan Harvey converted.

The highlight of the game came with the final try, started and finished by full-back Mark Williams, who used his pace and skill to score his first points for Wirral.
