YOUNG Wirral swimmers Cassie Wild and Freya Anderson came away with a wealth of medals after taking part in the East and West Midlands Short Course Championships.

The two, who are members of Wirral Metro Swimming Club, made the tough qualifying times in multiple events, bettering many West Midlands records in the process.

In the final of the 50m breaststroke Freya (age 14) took Open Bronze and her first of many 15/u Gold medals and Trophies of the weekend with 31.82 and becoming the fastest British 14 year old girl in breaking the British Age Record a record which has stood since 2008.

Just a few minutes later Freya was in the pool again competing in the Open final of the 200m Individual Medley once again taking Bronze against the University aged girls from Loughborough in 2:18.88 and taking the Gold medal and Trophy in the 15 and under category.

Cassie went on to break the current record in Scotland in the 50 back swimming a fantastic 28.10 in the final beating the record last set in 2012.

This won her the gold medal in the 15 and under category and an amazing 1st in the Open category beating senior swimmers from top ranking clubs placing her 4th in Europe for this event.

Cassie, aged 15, went on to take the Bronze medal in the Open age group 100m backstroke with 1:01.41and the 15/u Gold medal and Trophy in the same event which places her 2nd in the UK swimming ranking for her age group nationally.

Freya swam the 100 breaststroke to take Bronze in the Open final and again the 15/u Gold medal and Trophy for the event  - ranking her first in the UK for 14 years olds, second all-time fastest in the UK for a 14 year old and 2nd in Europe).

In the 100m free Freya once again beat fatigue due to the cruelly rapid finals schedule this time taking Silver in the Open and the 15/u Gold medal and Trophy (UK 1st).   Again a few minutes later Freya was fighting it out in the 200m breaststroke where she had beaten the existing Regional Record with 2:30.83 (UK 1st, UK All time 4th, Europe 7th).

Freya is currently on the England Talent programme – attending an induction day at Loughborough University in November followed by a swim camp specialising in freestyle at the 50m Wavertree pool in Liverpool in December.

Cassie has been selected for the Scottish Youth squad and is hoping to feed into the Scottish senior Gold squad as she progresses up the age ranks.

Next stop for both swimmers along with their Wirral Metro team mates is the Winter Short Course National Championships in Sheffield Ponds Forge Pool from December 17–20

Mike Richards, head coach at Wirral Metro, said: "We are proud of our achievements at Wirral Metro Swimming Club – we have a fantastic performance club full of amazingly committed and hard working swimmers and are working hard to attract more younger swimmers into the sport – for them to see Freya and Cassie’s achievements, swimmers in Wirral know that success at this level can be easily within their reach."
