THE Christmas lights will be switched on in Moreton town centre tomorrow.

It is part of an event taking place outside the Coach and Horses pub on Moreton Cross from 3.30pm.

The lights will be switched on at 5pm by Wirral Radio presenter Beverly Macca.

There will also be a raffle with lots of prizes, including beauty treatment vouchers, wines, spirits, restaurant vouchers and many more prizes all donated by local business and residents.

The switch-on has been organised by 'Moreton Christmas Lights Association', headed up by Moreton residents Angela and Steve Pouncey.

Funding for the event and decorations came from a 'Your Wirral' and a grant from the Moreton Town Team funding pot, some of the Moreton traders and donations from Moreton and Saughall Massie residents.

Angela Pouncey said: "I am very happy that this year we have managed to achieve the funding required of circa £7,000.00.

"Local residents and businesses seem to believe that the Christmas lights are paid for by the council, sadly they aren't and to keep this display going costs an awful lot of money, purchasing lights, the erection and taking down as well as storage.

"I would also like to thank the three local Councillors, Chris Blakeley, Bruce Berry and Steve Williams for all their hard work.

"I would love to see lots of people coming along to support this event."

Ward councillor Chris Blakeley said: "First of all once again it is down to the hard work and dedication of Angela and Steve that Moreton will be lit with festive lights.

"The lights are a real benefit in bringing Christmas to our communities as well as customers to our local businesses.

"Finally thanks to all those who have helped make this event possible by their kind donations no matter how large or small.

"It promises to be a great event on Saturday and I would urge the community to get behind us by coming along to show their support."
